Helderberg Winery is the oldest continuously producing cellar in South Africa and was bought a few years ago by the more widely acclaimed Boekenhoutskloof Winery.

Cabernet sauvignon was always their thing, and this one shows real character, with some attractive mid-weight restraint (despite the alcohol). Smoke and aromatic tar on the nose give way to dried black and blue berried fruits. An attractive chalky-dry edge to the fine-grained tannins adds lift and elegance. Good varietal character here and nice proportions.

New to the M&S range, and a tasty addition.
